Cities around the world are facing environmental and social issues in urban freight. Cargo bikes have become an increasingly popular and practical last-mile delivery solution in many cities worldwide. Micro consolidation hubs enable the shift of goods from high polluting trucks to cargo bikes and replace vans in last-mile delivery. However, many city design guidelines and infrastructure do not consider the needs of goods movement by cargo bikes. In this exchange, we will discuss the challenges and benefits of cargo bikes, understand the needs of service providers, implementation challenges and what cities can do to encourage the use of cargo bikes highlighting specific city case studies.
This is an exchange among the EcoLogistics Cities and cities interested in understanding last-mile logistics. Cities will share challenges, trends and opportunities in implementing cargo bikes as last-mile logistics solutions.
*** This event is exclusively for government staff working in cities, towns, counties and other local agencies.
