The project “Accelerating Climate-Resilient Transit-Oriented Inclusive and Vibrant Areas for Everyone in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area,” (ACTIVATE Bangkok) addresses urban mobility, climate resilience, and inclusivity in Bangkok. In promoting Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), the project considered climate adaptation through 3 dimensions: Adapting infrastructure, adapting the urban environment, and adapting social behaviour

Project approach

ADAPTING INFRASTRUCTURE

Promoting accessible, climate-resilient transit hubs with green spaces, connecting public transport, cycling, and walking routes for safer, sustainable mobility.

ADAPTING THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT

Promoting vibrant, mixed-use neighborhoods with accessible and inclusive public spaces, nature-based solutions, and climate-resilient amenities, around transit stations.

ADAPTING SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

Encouraging active mobility and accessibility for women, youth, elderly, and persons with disabilities as part of daily transit routines.

Project partners

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is the implementing partner. ICLEI World Secretariat is responsible for general project management and coordination. ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat is responsible for building political support at the national and sub-national levels and promoting city and community engagement.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system.

The Thailand Environment Institute Foundation (TEI) is a non-profit, non-governmental, organization, focusing on environmental and sustainable development issues. It was established in May 1993 in order to drive sound environmental policies; assist community on natural resources management; raise public awareness on environmental and sustainable development; and provide training to strengthen environmental management capacity.
