Authors: Chinghui, Liao, Local Coordinator for ICLEI EcoLogistics Community
The Global Logistics & Commerce Council of Taiwan(GLTC) has been deeply involved in the logistics industry for over 20 years. GLTC has acted as a bridge between the industry and the government, actively promoting internationalization and digitalization in the logistics sector. With the consensus on net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, industries worldwide are beginning to reflect on the impact of GHGs on extreme weather and environmental changes and advocate for policies to face the impact. As an important advocate for the logistics industry, GLTC organized the first ESG Logistics Sustainability Award under the guidance of the Department of Commerce, rewarding companies that demonstrate the spirit of “logistics sustainability” in areas such as “logistics operations”, “sustainable logistics environment “, “eco-friendly energy use”, and “innovative sustainable technology”. GLTC hopes to lead more logistics partners towards “EcoLogistics” and “sustainable logistics”. 20 out of 57 applicants were selected as the winners and promised to keep advancing the sustainable edge of logistics in the future.
The first ESG Logistics Sustainability Award could not be achieved without the most generous support from domestic and international partners. Wen-Tsan Cheng, the Vice Minister of the Executive Yuan, also the former Mayor of the City of Taoyuan and the former Chair of ICLEI EcoLogistics Community, gave his warm remarks and shared his enthusiasm towards future sustainable urban logistics development. Gino Van Begin, the Secretary-General ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, attended and shared the global trends in EcoLogistics and net-zero emissions.
