Good practices for low carbon freight in Latin American cities (in Spanish)

The webinar discussed different ways for cities to reduce GHG emissions, air pollution and other negative externalities within their urban areas while continuing to deliver urban freight effectively. It provided an overview of good practices of sustainable urban freight in cities across the globe, with a special emphasis on Latin American cities. Examples spread from last-mile solutions to collaborative practices and governance, including topics such as land use and policy planning, construction restrictions, urban consolidation centers, night-time deliveries and low-emission zones.
The webinar, which was moderated by Marie-Eve Assuncao-Denis from ICLEI, was held in Spanish and included the participation of the following experts:
Beatriz Royo, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the MIT-Zaragoza Logistics Center
Beatriz Royo is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program. Dr. Royo has a PhD degree in Computer Engineering in the field of transport optimization and a MSc degree based on mechanical systems from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Zaragoza, Spain. Dr. Royo´s main research areas are network design, supply chain collaboration, digitalization and sustainability. Throughout her career, Dr. Royo has published several papers in journals as well as in scientific conferences.
Andrés Archila, Advisor at Despacio
Andrés Felipe Archila is an advisor on transportation and logistics at Despacio, with nine years of professional experience in research, edu- cation, consulting, entrepreneurship and public administration on those topics. Most recently, he worked as the Under-Secretary of Sectoral Policy in Bogota, Logistics Lead at Rappi, and Lead Researcher in Public Policy at Logyca/Research.
Dario Hidalgo, Executive Director at Despacio
Dario Hidalgo is Despacio’s Executive Director. He is a civil engineer from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, and holds a PhD in transportation planning from The Ohio State University. He also acts as a Senior Consultant for the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. For the past 27 years, he worked in the field of urban transport and urban design, working both as a government official and a consultant for various international agencies and local governments. He has advised local governments and led training courses on planning and implementation of sustainable transport systems in countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
